Review - A Bug's Life

An ant colony is tyrannized by a group of grasshoppers, led by Hopper, who force the ants to gather food for them. The Queen is turning over the responsibility for the colony to her daughter, Atta. One ant, Flik, is constantly causing problems in spite of good intentions. When he accidentally destroys the food hoard, Hopper insists that the colony collect twice the usual amount of food before winter.

Flik determines to go for help and returns with a circus troop that he has mistaken for warriors. The group decides to build an artificial bird to scare the grasshoppers. When Hopper and his gang arrive and finds out that the food hasn’t been gathered, he takes the Queen captive. The circus troup puts on their show to distract the grasshoppers while Flik launches the bird. It works at first, and the grasshoppers start to flee, but then the bird catches on fire and crashes. Hopper is angry and demands to know who built the bird. Flik confesses. Hopper beats the snot out of him, but Flik won’t stay down. He stands up to Hopper until the entire colony figures out there is strength in numbers and attack. Hopper grabs Atta (with whom Flik is in love). Flik rushes to her rescue and lures Hopper into the clutches of a real bird.

It was OK cute, but is my least favorite of the Pixar movies. I just couldn’t get any feeling of sympathy for bugs, and the circus performers were mostly just annoying.
