Review - Cherish

Leaving a bar one night, Zoe is kidnapped by a man who has been stalking her. He forces her to run down a policeman who tries to stop the car. When she’s caught, the kidnapper has disappeared and a breath test reveals that she’s drunk. She’s charged with murder and locked up in a cheap apartment with an ankle bracelet that keeps track of her.

Her technician Daly checks on her regularly and falls in love with her. She gets bored and tries many things to occupy her time, but without success. As her trial approaches, she realizes she will probably get 15 years in prison. She has one chance — the kidnapper took her cell phone and she has the bill. If she can track where he is, she can prove he was in the car the night the cop died. She talks Daly into letting her wear a work-release bracelet for one day.

She finds the kidnapper’s apartment but is forced to flee when he comes home. She leaves her purse behind and he follows her to her place. When he breaks in, she climbs out onto the roof and down the fire escape, setting off the bracelet alarm. Daly follows her to the kidnapper’s apartment where he finds the kidnapper, the evidence needed to arrest him — and Zoe’s bracelet. She broke her foot to get it off. Months later, she calls him up because she realizes she misses him.

It was quirky, teeter-tottering between being a comedy and a rather dark suspense story with people getting beaten, run over and knifed. Robin Tunney was good as Zoe and Tim Blake Nelson, while a bit square, was endearing as Daly.
