Description:Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) is 36, unmarried and lives with his parents (Kathy Bates and Terry Bradshaw). He has flings with a lot of women, but as soon as one gets serious, he takes her home. When the girl finds out he lives with his folks, she takes off. Then he has another fling. (Later on in the movie we find out that he was engaged six years previously, and the girl died. This, somehow, makes his lifestyle OK.)

Tripp’s parents want him out. They hire Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker), a girl who specializes in dating stay-at-home guys and giving them self-confidence so they are ready to try life on their own. Paula, of course, falls in love with Tripp. When he finds out, he takes her home. She decides to stick with him. But then Tripp’s buddy Ace (Justin Bartha) finds out what Paula is up to and tells another friend, Demo (Bradley Cooper), who tells Tripp. He dumps Paula and moves out. Paula quits her work and decides to move back in with her folks.

Paula’s roommate, the Eeyore-like Kit (Zooey Deschanel), Ace, Demo and Tripp’s parents get together and scheme a way to lock Tripp and Paula in a room together. This actually works and they fall in love.

Review - Failure to Launch

Why I saw it: Sal and I were in the mood for a movie, and this was the best of what there was to choose from.

What I liked about it: An occasional scene here and there were funny. Zooey Deschanel, with her deadpan humor, was funny, although she swore a lot.

What I didn’t like about it: Tripp was a sleaze for the way he had flings with women. Paula was a total sleaze. Ace and Kit’s story was more interesting, but even they jumped into bed first chance they got. In short, there was nobody to root for.

Bottom line: I just wasn’t in the mood for stupid.
