Review - French Kiss

Kate and Charlie are engaged. Charlie has to take a business trip to Paris. Kate doesn’t go along because she’s afraid to fly. But a few days later when Charlie calls and says he’s fallen in love with Juliette, Kate determines to fly over and get him back. On the plane she meets Luc, a French thief who is smuggling a necklace so he can sell it an buy a vineyard. He sneaks the necklace in Kate’s purse to get it through customs. They get separated in the airport when Luc meets his cop friend, Jean-Paul. By the time Luc catches up with Kate, her purse has been stolen by Bob, another thief. Luc and Kate chase Bob down and get Kate’s purse back. Kate still doesn’t know about the necklace. She finds out Charlie has gone to Cannes with Juliette, so she follows. Luc gets on the train. On the way, they stop in Luc’s home town and Kate sees the vineyard Luc wants to buy.

Once they reach Cannes, Luc helps Kate come up with a plan to get Charlie back while at the same time he tries to seduce Juliette. Everything is going according to plan when Luc and Kate decide they love each other. Meanwhile, Jean-Paul tracks them down and explains the situation with the necklace to Kate. She works out a deal to give the necklace to Jean-Paul and pay Luc with her own savings. She hops a plane to head back home. Jean-Paul finds Luc and tells him what Kate did with the necklace and the money. Luc follows Kate to the plane. In the final scene, the two of them are in the vineyard. The grapes are grown, so obviously, quite a bit of time has passed.

The movie had its share of language and sexual innuendo, but amazingly, Luc and Kate never end up sleeping together during the course of the movie. Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline are good in their roles, and there are some fun sub-plots.
