Review - Gods Must Be Crazy II, The

Xi, the bushman from the first movie, goes looking for food with his daughter and young son. The children happen upon a poachers truck and climb aboard looking for water. The truck drives off and Xi gives chase.

Meanwhile, Ann Taylor, in Africa for a conference, takes a sightseeing plane ride with Stephen Marshall, a wildlife officer. Their ultralight plane is forced off course in a storm and blown down into a tree. When they try to get it flying again, it takes off with Ann. She finally manages to land it, but Stephen doesn’t know where she is. He takes off to look for her. She tries to find her way back to him.

Two soldiers, on opposing sides in a local war, run into each other and take turns grabbing the gun and holding the other prisoner. Ann meets Xi, who takes her to the soldiers. She gets tired of being their hostage and grabs the gun herself. Meanwhile, Stephen is dehydrated. Xi finds him and gives him water, then leads Ann and the soldiers to him.

They soon happen upon the poachers, but Xi’s children have long since gotten out of the truck. The poachers take them captive, but they escape and capture the poachers. One of the soldiers helps Stephen get the plane flying, then takes the poachers to jail. The other soldier takes off to look for his jeep. Xi meets up with his children. Stephen and Ann fly back to town and kiss.

All of this was much more slapstick and funny than it sounds, but somehow the movie lacks some of the heart of the first one.
