Reviews for The Island
Review - Island, The
Lincoln Six and Jordan Two are part of the lucky remnant, gathered when the world was contaminated. They are living in an underground bunker. Every so often, one of those living in the bunker is chosen to go to the island, the last uncontaminated place on earth.
Or so they’re told. Reality is that they are all clones, purchased by people to replace parts. The company is owned by Merrick. There is no island. When a clone “wins” the lottery, they are harvested for their parts. Lincoln Six finds out about all this from McCord, one of Merrick’s maintenance men. When his friend Jordan wins the lottery, Lincoln grabs her and they make a break for it. Merrick hires Laurent, a professional hit man. McCord is killed, but not before he shows Lincoln how to get in touch with Tom Lincoln, the man who he is cloned from. Lincoln thinks Tom will help him when he finds out that the clones are living, breathing, aware people instead of the vegetables he’s been told they are.
But Tom is more worried about living a long life, so he wants his clone contained. He pretends to help Lincoln but really turns him in. Lincoln turns the tables on him by putting his clone bracelet on Tom and Laurent kills Tom. Lincoln and Jordan go back inside the bunker, free the other clones and kill Merrick.
It was entertaining for the most part, and brought up some interesting ethical questions about cloning, but the action sequences were way over the top and the computer animation was out of control. There was one scene where Lincoln and Jordan fall from the top of a skyscraper along with a part of the building’s superstructure and a flaming helicopter. But they escape without injury when they happen to land in a net.
