Why I saw it: Sal and I wanted to watch a movie on my birthday. It was my fault — I picked this one.

Brief Synopsis: Chris was fat in high school. He had a major crush on Jamie, but she just thought of him as a friend. On the night of graduation he tries to tell her and gets humiliated. He takes off and heads to Hollywood where he loses weight and becomes a big producer.

He gets stranded in him hometown when taking pop star Samantha to Paris. He meets Jamie and decides to try again to get her to like him. Everything goes wrong. Samantha thinks he loves her and keeps getting in the way. Another old school chum, Dusty, is also making a play for Jamie and having better luck. Chris keeps having accidents. He finally gets drunk and confronts Jamie in a bar. She kicks him out and he goes back to Hollywood to find Samantha waiting for him.

He realizes this isn’t what he wants and goes back Jamie. This time he manages to convince her he loves her for real.

What I liked about it: There were two mildly funny scenes. In one, a flaming Christmas lawn-ornament reindeer gets pulled down the street behind a car. In the other, a paramedic uses a wheelchair-bound paralytic as a drink holder.

What I didn’t like about it: Everything else. The entire movie was shot with a totally unrealistic slapstick feel that made every character fake. I didn’t care if Chris and Jamie ended up together.

Bottom line: I gave it a 5 for the reindeer scene.
