Review - Money for Nothing
Based on a true story. Poor West Philadelphia dock worker Joey Coyle finds $1.2 million that fell off an armored car. He decides to keep the money and negotiates with a local petty mobster to launder half the money. The mobster backs out on the deal and Joey loses half the money. Detective Laurenzi investigates, but the few in Joey’s neighborhood who know about the money won’t rat. Joey takes the car he was in when he found the money — a car driven by his friend Kenny — and dumps it in the river. Laurenzi finds the car. Kenny reveals who Joey is, and Laurenzi finds him just as he’s boarding a plane for the Bahamas with his girlfriend Monica. Although he as to go to jail for a short time, he’s a hero in his neighborhood, even thought he didn’t get anything for the money.
Not terribly interesting or well-acted. Coyle was too stupid to either give the money back or take it and run in time to escape. Instead he bumbled around, falling through the ceiling of his mother’s house while trying to hide the money, flashing it in the local bar, etc. until he got caught.
