Review - Move Over, Darling
Silly, but occasionally mildly amusing. I’m not a big fan of Doris Day.

| Description: | Ellen Arden (Doris Day) is lost at sea and presumed dead. After five years, her husband Nick (James Garner) has her declared dead and marries Bianca (Polly Bergen) — the very morning that Ellen returns. Nick’s mother, Grace (Thelma Ritter), sends Ellen to the hotel where Nick and Bianca are honeymooning and she arrives before the marriage is consummated. When Nick sees Ellen, he realizes he needs to tell Bianca, but she’s a very aggressive woman and he has trouble telling her. Ellen gets mad and storms home. To keep Bianca at bay, Nick fakes a bad back. When they return home, Ellen is in the house, disguised as a Swiss nurse hired to take care of Nick’s back. Bianca soon finds out who Ellen is. Meanwhile, Nick finds out that Ellen wasn’t alone on the island. An insurance salesman tells him that Ellen was Eve to Stephen Burkett’s Adam (Chuck Connors). Nick gets jealous and storms out. Ellen tries to pass off a wimpy shoe salesman (Don Knotts) as Stephen, but Nick knows better and drags Ellen to the café where Stephen is. She gets mad and drives off — through a car wash with the convertible top down. To end the confusion, Grace gets Nick arrested for bigamy. Everyone shows up in court. Bianca wants an annulment. Ellen wants to be declared alive again and then granted a divorce. Stephen wants to marry Ellen. Nick agrees to the divorce which the judge wants to think about. Ellen tells Grace that Stephen was a wolf who pursued her (unsuccessfully) for the five years on the island. She returns home to find Nick waiting for her. |
