Review - Must Love Dogs
Sarah is recently divorced. Her two married sisters encourage her to date again. The first time she answers a date ad, she ends up meeting her father (who dates a string of women throughout the movie). Jake is also recently divorced. He sees Sarah’s ad with the line “must love dogs.” He borrows a dog and shows up to meet Sarah who has also borrowed a dog. The meeting doesn’t go well. Sarah is attracted to Bob, the father of one of the kids in her pre-school class. She bounces back and forth between the two men, none of her dates going well. She’s about to score with Jake when Bob shows up. Jakes sees Bob kiss her and leaves. She sleeps with Bob and then finds out he’s a jerk. Finally, she pursues Jake who is boating on the river and dives in to get to him. Of course, they get together.
The characters of Jake and Sarah were likeable and I rooted for them to get together. The sub-plot with Sarah’s sisters was cute. The bit with her dad sleeping with a string of women was disgusting, as were Sarah’s gay friends. There were a few cute bits, but mostly it was sad and sick.
