Review - Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, The
Mia is about to take over the throne from her grandmother who is stepping down to marry the head of security. But a member of parliament has a different idea. He brings up an old law that requires queens to be married. If Mia doesn’t find a husband within a month, the parliament member’s nephew, Nicholas Devereaux, will become king.
Mia makes an arranged match with Andrew Jacoby, a suitable and nice guy, but they don’t love each other. Meanwhile, Nicholas is hanging about and he and Mia start falling for each other in spite of themselves. A few nights before the wedding, Nicholas goes to Mia’s window. She goes out with them and ends up spending the entire night out. They’re caught on film, causing a scandle and Mia thinks Nicholas set her up. She determines to marry Andrew, but as she’s walking down the aisle, she decides she can’t.
She makes an impassioned plea to the parliament to let her be queen without marrying and they agree. Nicholas’s uncle protests, but Nicholas shows up and supports Mia. She becomes queen and she and Nicholas get together.
Stupid. I checked it out for my daughter, but she informed me that since she’s in seventh grade she’s no longer interested. I watched it instead. The story was silly with all sorts of holes. The acting was pathetic. It wasn’t nearly as good as the first one.
