Description:A young William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) struggles to write a play. A noblewoman Viola De Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow), catches Shakespeare's eye and becomes his muse. Viola loves the theater and disguises herself as a boy and wins a part. (No women are allowed on the stage.) The play becomes Romeo and Juliet. Viola plays Romeo. She and Will have an affair although her marriage to Lord Wessex (Colin Firth) has been arranged. The officials find out about Viola and close the theater, but a rival owner offers his theater instead. On the night of the opening, Will plays Romeo himself. The boy who was to play Juliet can't perform, so Viola, who is in the crowd steps forward and plays the part. Queen Elizabeth is in the audience and pretends that she doesn't know Viola is a woman. But she insists that she goes to America with Wessex. Shakespeare writes his next play, Twelfth Night, in her memory.

Review - Shakespeare in Love

I like it. The way Shakespeare's dialogue is mixed in with everyday speech, the humor ... I think the movie is well cast too. My favorite bit is when the theater owner says that, even without someone to play Juliet, "The play must ..." And Shakespeare says "go on," as if to hear the rest of what he has to say.
