Reviews for Shalako
Review - Shalako
Why I saw it: I was browsing at the library and saw Sean Connery and Brigitte Bardot in a western. I thought it might be interesting.
Brief Synopsis: Loner Shalako comes across a European hunting party on Apache lands. He warns them to leave, but they refuse. He rides for help. The Apache’s attack the party and kill half the men. Then Fulton, the lead guide holds up the Baron (who wants to marry the Countess) and the others and takes off with their loot. Lady Daggett goes along with Fulton. Shalako returns and leads the others away on foot. The Apaches follow and catch Fulton’s wagon, killing Lady Daggett and Fulton’s men. Fulton gets away on foot.
Shalako and the Baron get everyone up on a plateau and try to hold off the Apaches. While all this is happening, Shalako and the Countess are getting it on. Then Fulton shows up. Daggett and he shoot each other. The Apaches attack and capture the women. The chief fights Shalako, and when Shalako wins, the Apaches ride off. When the movie ends, the Baron and what’s left of his party go one way, Shalako and the Countess go the other.
What I liked about it: It was OK, nothing really great.
What I didn’t like about it: There was a bunch of stupid stuff, like the Apaches attacking in single file to be shot, stuff like that. The whole premise was a bit corny.
Bottom line: I gave it a 6. It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t a keeper either.
Other comments: Brigitte Bardot looks like she ought to be attractive, but she isn’t — or at least she wasn’t in this movie.
