Description:Flor (Paz Vega) is a Mexican single mother who gets a job as a housekeeper for the Clasky family. John (Adam Sandler) is a four-star chef who is kind and sensitive and does his best to love his overbearing wife Deborah (Teo Leoni). There are misunderstandings from the beginning, but when the Claskys rent a home on the beach for the summer, Flor and her daughter have to move in with them. Deborah, who is always hard on her own daughter, spoils Flor's daughter, much against Flor's will. In the midst of all the tension, John and Flor find sympathy with each other. When Deborah confesses to John that she's been having an affair on the same night that Deborah lies ot Flor so that her daughter can stay overnight. John and Flor go to John's restaurant together and spend the night talking. They are tempted to get involved but realize they can't. John needs to deal with his marriage, and Flor needs to get her daughter out of the environment. She quits her job and reconnect.

Review - Spanglish

Although the main point is about the differences in cultures, there are some profound truths about life in general.

My two favorite lines are both from Cloris Leachman, who plays Deborah's mother:

"Lately my dear, your low self-esteem is just good common sense."

"I lived my life for myself. You live yours for your daughter. None of it works."
