Ann Carrington returns from China to her family estate to meet her dying father. She and her friend Gail Richards travel by taxi. On the way, someone tries to kill them by shooting their tires. When Bob, the taxi driver, goes for help, Ann and Gail hitch a ride with Cosmo Topper. Cosmo’s wife Clara sees them drive by with a girl in Topper’s lap.

That night at the Carrington home, Ann and Gail switch beds. A hooded figure comes in through the window and stabs Gail, thinking she’s Ann. Gail’s ghost goes to Topper’s house and convinces him to help her find her murdered. Clara follows. There’s all kinds of mix-ups with the Toppers, Gail’s ghost, Ann and Bob (who comes back for his fair), Ann’s father and his doctor and various maids and butlers. In the end, Gail and Topper figure out that the murderer is Ann’s father, who really isn’t her father but her father’s business partner who wants the inheritance.

It’s all very silly and stands up to no amount of thought whatsoever. The acting wasn’t particularly good or the characters very endearing.
