Review - Van Helsing

Brief Synopsis: Van Helsing works for a secret Catholic society, ridding the world of evil. He’s sent to Transylvania to defeat Dracula and save the Valerious family. Years before, a member of the family vowed that none of them would go to heaven until Dracula was dead, and the family is now down to one member, Anna. Van Helsing joins up with Anna to fight off Dracula’s brides and the Wolfman. Van Helsing is bitten by the wolf and begins to turn into one, but this works out well because Carl, Van Helsing’s friar helper decodes a clue that shows that only a wolf can kill Dracula.

Dracula grabs Frankenstein’s Monster and hooks him up to the machine to steal his life-force for all his offspring. The Monster is a good guy and agrees to help Van Helsing. While Van Helsing and Dracula fight the final battle, Carl and Anna find the antidote for werewolfism. Van Helsing kills Dracula, Anna injects the antidote into him, but is killed in the process. But since Dracula died first, Anna and her family go to heaven.

What I liked about it: Not much this time around. Carl’s character was fun. All the characters were fine, I just wasn’t in the mood.

What I didn’t like about it: The computer animated monsters didn’t do it for me at all. Kate Beckinsale was beautiful, as always, but her Eastern European accent was awful.

Quotes: Dr. Frankenstein: I would rather die than help you.
Dracula: Don’t say that! Everyone who says that ends up dying.
