Description:The beautiful Laura Hunt (Gene Tierney)is found murdered and Inspector Mark McPherson (Dana Andrews) investigates. He talks with Waldo (Clifton Webb), the famous writer who helps Laura with her career and does whatever he can to keep her from marrying, and with Carpenter (Vincent Price), Laura's fiance. As he investigates, Mark finds himself falling in love with the idea of Laura. In her apartment one evening, investigating, he falls asleep. When he awakes, Laura is there. It turns out that Laura had gone to her country home for the weekend and the murder victim was another girl Carpenter had brought to the house. Evidence points to Carpenter, then to Laura herself as the guilty party, but in the end it turns out to be Waldo. He decided that if he couldn't have Laura, nobody could. He makes a second attempt and is killed by the police. Mark and Laura end up together. Or do they? We're left wondering if the second half of the film, from the point of Laura's return, is just Mark's dream.

Review - Laura

It didn't grab me quite as much the second time. Movies like this never can once you know the dead person isn't dead, but it's still an interesting plot with great acting and Gene Tierney ...

I'm rather intrigued by the idea that she never came back, that everyone in the movie just dreamed the Laura they thought she was.
