Description:English Title: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

Genevieve (Catherine Deneuve) who works with her mother in an umbrella shop falls for garage mechanic Guy. Her mother tries to discourage the relationship, but on the night before Guy is drafted into the army, Genevieve goes to him and soon discovers she is pregnant. She rarely gets letters from Guy, and when Roland, a rich young man who loves her, offers to marry her and raise the child as his own, she agrees. Guy returns from the army and discovers that Genevieve is married. He turns into a bum, but is rescued by Madeliene, the girl who takes care of his old aunt. When the aunt dies and leaves Guy her money, he buys a garage and marries Madeliene. Four years later, Genevieve stops by the garage one night when Guy is there alone. They talk for a few moments. She leaves unhappy. Madeliene returns, and it is evident that she and Guy are very much in love.

Review - Les parapluies de Cherbourg

All in French, of course, with subtitles. Every word of dialogue was sung. I recognized two or three of the songs. The story was sad. The most amazing thing about the movie was the riot of color throughout.
