His control, Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe) back in the States is willing to do anything and sacrifice anyone to accomplish his task. Ferris, on location, has a conscience. Ferris works with the head of Jordan's intelligence, but the two men never entirely trust each other. When the Iranian woman Ferris has fallen for is kidnapped, Ferris offers himself in exchange. He ends up in the hands of the man he's been searching for and is tortured. He's rescued by the Jordanians just before he's killed. That's when he discovers that he was set up as bait. He quits the service and decides to stay in Jordan.

Review - Body of Lies

the premise of the movie seemed to be that the good guys aren't much better than the bad guys. Perhaps, but it didn't make for a very entertaining movie. Russell Crowe's (who gained a great deal of weight for the role) character didn't do much except be the jerk who calls the shot but doesn't have to pay the price. I generally watch movies for entertainment, but this one was a bit too serious to provide any and I never really found myself believing in or caring for any of the characters.
