Review - Heaven Can Wait
In addition to the obvious theological errors, it just wasn't a story worth telling.

| Description: | Henry Van Cleve (Don Ameche) dies and goes to hell. The devil requires him to prove that he's been bad enough to qualify for residency, so Henry tells him the story of his life. He's chased a lot of women. He eloped with his wife Martha (Gene Tierney) on the night his cousin introduced her as his (the cousin's) fiancee. Years later he caused her grief by having a fling with another woman. He continued to chase women after Martha died. When his story is done, the devil tells him he's too good to get into hell because he made a lot of women happy. Henry is told to go to heaven — that he might have to wait in an outer room for several years before actually getting in, but that Martha would be pleading for him, and he'd make it eventually. |
