Description:Frank Keane (Robert Carlyle) is a widower who is crushed by the death of his wife. He's delivering bread from his bakery when he comes upon a car accident. The driver, Steve Mills (John Goodman) tells him he's on the way to Marilyn Hotchkiss' (Mary Steenburgen) dance class for a reunion he planned with his childhood love, Lisa 40 years before. The story is told in three parts: 1) Frank rides in the ambulance with Steve who asks him to go to the dance class and explain to Lisa why he isn't there. 2) Steve tells the story of his childhood (through flashbacks) and 3), Frank goes to the dance class where he meets Meredith (Marisa Tomei) and finds release from his grief through dancing. Lisa never shows up and at the end of the film, Frank seeks her out and finds a fat, sloppy woman who forgot all about Steve. We also discover that Steve spent the intervening years in prison for armed robbery, and in fact, that he stole the car he crashed.

Review - Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School

I liked it. It wasn't predictable. It was sad, happy, funny, serious. There were several other subplots that I didn't mention and a lot of familiar actors and actresses.
