Review - It Happened on Fifth Avenue
Cute, but with a lot of plot gaps. The one that bugs me most is that we never see Trudy tell Jim who she really is.

| Description: | It's right after WWII, and ex-GI Jim Bullock (Don DeFore) has just gotten tossed out of his apartment because the building was bought by industrialist Michael O'Connor (Charles Ruggles). On a park bench, Jim runs into Aloysius McKeever (Victor Moore) a bum who has taken up residence in O'Connor's mansion while O'Connor is away for the winter. O'Connor's daughter, Trudy (Gale Storm) stops by and meet, and falls for, Jim. She doesn't tell him who she is. Soon, several of Jim's army buddies and their families, all of whom can't find homes, are also staying in the mansion. Jim comes up with an idea to turn army barracks into housing. Meanwhile, Trudy tells her dad what's going on in his house. He moves in, disguised as a homeless man. At first, he's opposed to Jim and tries to get him to leave, but when Trudy also invites her mother, Mary (Ann Harding), who is divorced from Mike, Mike's feelings start to change. By the end of the movie, Mike and Mary are back together, Jim and Trudy are getting married and Jim has his army barracks to go to work on. McKeever doesn't know who any of them are, but is happy being who he is. |
