Description:Lars (Ryan Gosling) is a shy young man who has entirely escaped from normal society. His brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and sister-in-law Karen (Emily Mortimer) try to help but only drive him further away. One day Lars shows up at their door with Bianca, an inflatable doll that he's convinced is his girlfriend. Gus and Karen take him to a doctor (Patricia Clarkson) who advises them to play along. She "sees" Bianca once a week so she can talk with Lars. Soon the entire town is playing along and even taking Bianca out without Lars.

Then Lars finds himself attracted to Margo (Kelli Garner), a girl at work. He can't be unfaithful to Bianca, so he has her get sick and die. The entire town shows up for the funeral, all realizing that they've learned something about kindness. At the end of the movie, Lars and Margo go for a walk.

Review - Lars and the Real Girl

Very slow moving at the beginning, but when the whole town pitches in to help Lars by pretending Bianca is real, I couldn't help smiling — and rooting for Lars and Margo.
