Description:Sgt. Dave Bannion (Glenn Ford) is investigating the suicide of a fellow officer. He is convinced that the man's wife, Bertha Duncan, is witholding information. When he puts a little heat on her, he's warned off by the local mob kingpin, Mike Lagana. He goes to Lagana's house to confront him and in return, Bannion's wife is killed when his car explodes. He's kicked off the force, but is determined to find who killed his wife. He meets up with Debby Marsh (Gloria Grahame), the girlfriend of Lagana's hitman, Vince Stone (Lee Marvin). When Stone finds out, he throws hot coffee in Debby's face, scarring her. In retaliation, she kills Bertha so the information she has is exposed. She's killed by Stone, but Lagana and Stone are arrested and Bannion is put back on the force.

Review - Big Heat, The

Gritty, with some good characters, but a little pat. There's not really a good explanation for why Debby goes with Bannion to begin with.
