Description:On a trip to New Mexico, writer Richard Harland (Cornel Wilde) meets Ellen Berent (Gene Tierney). After only a few days, Ellen proposes to Richard and they get married. They go to Richard's lodge in Maine, along with Richard's crippled brother, Danny. Ellen's mother and cousin Ruth (Jean Crain) arrive soon after. Ellen is possessive and resents everyone's presence. She forces the others to leave, but when Danny refuses to go, Ellen takes him for a swim and lets him drown.

Later, after the couple has moved in with Ellen's mother and sister, Ellen becomes pregnant. She doesn't want the child and forces her own miscarriage. When she gets out of the hospital, she's convinced that Ruth and Richard love each other. Richard discovers that Ellen killed Danny and her unborn child and determines to leave. In a final fit of rage, Ellen poisons herself and frames Ruth. Ellen's ex-fiance (Vincent Price) is the prosecutor. He forces Richard into a corner so he had to confess what Ellen did. Ruth is found not guilty, but Richard is sent to prison for two years for concealing a crime. When he gets out, Ruth is waiting for him.

Review - Leave Her to Heaven

Garish and overblown. Even the color was extreme. The acting was overdone. The plot device of Richard going to jail for not telling on his wife was ridiculous. But even with all that, it was fairly interesting to watch.
