Sort of dramatic. I'm not really into cards, and Las Vegas always looks to me like a good place to go to catch a disease, but it was exciting to watch.

Description: | Ben (Jim Sturgess) is an MIT grad who needs to earn $300,000 to go to Harvard Medical School. Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey) is a teacher at MIT who figured out a card-counting system to win at Blackjack. He gathers five students, including Ben, and takes them to Vegas every weekend. Ben is well on his way to earning the money he needs when he gets out of control one night and loses the group's money. Micky turns him in to the casino authorities. Ben gets beaten, and when he gets back to MIT, he finds out he's no longer going to graduate and all his money has been stolen. He goes to Micky and begs his way back in. They play one last time and make a huge pile of money. The guards come for them, and they run. Micky takes the chips, intending to double-cross the others, but the whole thing was a set-up Ben worked with the guards to capture Micky. Ben loses his money, but wins a scholarship to Harvard based on the experience. He also wins Jill (Kate Bosworth), fellow student and player. |
