Description:Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) moves to California with his mother. He almost immediately gets in bad with a local gang who train under a hard guy karate teacher. When Daniel starts hanging out with the gang leader's ex-girlfriend Ali (Elizabeth Shue), Daniel gets beaten up. When he retaliates, the entire gang goes after him. He's saved by Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), the elderly maintenance man at his apartment complex. Mr. Miyagi agrees to teach Daniel karate, and at the regional tournament, Daniel manages to win the championship trophy. He also gets the girl.

Review - Karate Kid, The

I saw this when it first came out and thought it wasn't too bad, but I couldn't have told you why. Now I realize that whatever value it has is a result of the performance of Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi. It's only when he's on screen that the movie is really interesting.
