Reviews for The Mating Season
Review - Mating Season, The
Billed a comedy, but it's more of a look at prejudice and class. Gene Tierney was lovely and Thelma Ritter was amazing in her role.

| Description: | Val McNulty (John Lund) marries Maggie Carleton (Gene Tierney) even though he has reservations because his family is blue-collar and hers is rich. When Val's mother Ellen (Thelma Ritter) has to sell her hamburger stand, she moves near the couple. When she visits to introduce herself to her daughter-in-law, Maggie misunderstands and thinks she's the maid. Ellen realizes the pressure the couple is under to make good, so she won't let Val tell. Things go on OK until Maggie's mother arrives. When she finds out who Ellen is, she tells Maggie who is embarrassed and upset that Val lied to her. She threatens to leave, but when Val responds by taking Ellen to a fancy reception and introducing her as his mother, Maggie gives in. |
