They agree to take Irena (Rita Hayworth), a beautiful but worn refugee to another island. They both fall for her and split. Tony takes on a job to earn money to run away with Irena, but gets trapped in a burning ship. Irena, meanwhile, runs to Felix. When they find out about Tony, Felix heads out to rescue him. After finding out who Irena really is, Tony walks away from both of them.

Review - Fire Down Below

Weird movie. Rita Hayworth was visibly aging and, supposedly, her character portrayed what was happening in her own life — not much talent and looks fading. There was chemistry between her and Mitchum, but we didn't get to see much of it. Their connection happened off screen. Almost the whole second half of the movie involved the efforts to free Tony from the ship, and then the ship shifted, he was free and the movie ended.
