I ended up liking and caring about the characters, but it was sad — not because they died, but because they died thinking that completing their list made life worthwhile. Freeman's character talked about faith, but he never said what he had faith in. Nicholson's character found joy in reconciling with his daughter and meeting his granddaughter — all good, but ultimately not enough.
