Orphan Sam is a scout on a camping trip on an island. He meets Suzy, whose parents live on the island, and together they plan to run away. They meet and set off into the woods until they reach a hidden cove where they make camp. Meanwhile, the island policeman, Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis), Scout Master Ward (Edward Norton) and his scouts, and Suzy's parents, the Bishops (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand) search for them. They're found at the camp and forbidden to see each other again. Suzy goes home. Sharp calls Social Services to get Sam because his foster parents don't want him any more. Social Services says they're going to send Sam to a reformatory and maybe give him shock treatments. The other scouts decide to help. They get Suzy and head to Sharp's trailer where Sam is. They travel to another island where Sam and Suzy are "married" by the cousin of one of the scouts. A storm hits, and everyone ends up in a church. Sharp gets Social Services to agree to let Sam stay with him and helps him make regular visits to see Suzy.

Review - Moonrise Kingdom

Odd but compelling. Anderson said it is a fantasy about the feeling of first love. It has the feel of an amateur production done very well and cleverly by professionals.
