Spike the Bulldog (in his first appearance) ceaselessly torments a small, white kitten. While hiding, the kitten meets Blackie, a black alley cat that offers to bring the dog bad luck whenever the kitten blows a whistle. From then on, whenever the kitten whistles, Blackie walks in front of the dog and something heavy falls on Spike's head. This lasts until Spike paints Blackie white. He's about to pound on the cat when the kitten jumps in a can of black paint and then walks in front of the dog. An anvil falls on Spikes head, causing him to swallow the whistle. The cartoon ends with Spike running away, hiccoughing and dodging planes, buses, ships, etc. which keep falling on him.

Review - Bad Luck Blackie

Unlike most cartoons which just make me smile a bit, this one had me laughing out loud. Especially during the scene in which Spike tries to use a horseshoe to counter Blackie's curse. Instead of preventing something from falling on him, four horseshoes land on his head, followed by a bewildered horse. Very clever.
