Description:When the police in a German city are unable to catch a serial child-killer (Peter Lorre as Hans Beckert), the criminal classes join the search — because even they find child killing reprehensible and because the intense search is upsetting their activities. They marshal the beggars who track the killer to an office building. the criminals search after hours and catch Beckert, then take him back to a deserted building and hold a trial, the crux of which is whether a man who can't control himself should be held accountable for his actions. Just as they are about to kill him, the police arrive.

This movie wasn't really about the plot, but more about the atmosphere and camera angles, many of which were notable for their innovation and others which were just weird, like the shot of the homicide detective seated in his desk chair shot from a point of view near his feet. Lorre overacts all the way through, but in this movie, it works.
