Description:Cal Trask (James Dean) is a lonely young man who only wants the love of his father Adam (Raymond Massey). But Adam considers Cal to be bad, like the wife who left him years ago to become a madame, and prefers his other son, Aron. The only one willing to understand Cal is Abra (Julie Harris), Aron's girlfriend. Adam loses all his money when his attempt to ship lettuce across the country fails. Cal earns enough to make up what Adam lost, but when he offers it to his dad, Adam refuses it. Aron accuses Cal of being mean and low, so Cal takes him to meet his mother. Aron gets drunk and joins the army. Adam has a stroke. On his deathbed, he forgives Cal and asks him and Abra to take care of him.

Review - East of Eden

Melodramatic. I felt for the character of Cal, but James Dean overacted and made him seem rather silly at times. In the end, I'm not sure the story, as portrayed in the movie, was worth the telling.
