| Description: | Publicist Steve (Elliott Reid) discovers Vicki Lynn (Jean Peters) working in a coffee shop and, with the help of a newspaper columnist, makes her a top model whose picture is everywhere. Vicki lets things go to her head and decides to take off for Hollywood, but the night before she's supposed to leave, she's found murdered. The detective on the case, Cornell (Richard Boone) badgers Steve to confess and when that doesn't work begins stalking him and beating him up. Steve hides out with Jill (Jeanne Crain), Vicki's sister where he realizes the doorman committed the murder. When he confronts the doorman, he finds out that Cornell knew who really committed the murder all along. Steve convinces another cop to follow him to Cornell's apartment where he finds a shrine to Vicki and gets Cornell to admit that he'd been obsessed with the girl since long before her stardom, when he was just a cop on the beat and she was a waitress who was kind to him. After Cornell's arrest, Steve and Jill get together. |
