Description:John "Thunderbolt" Doherty (Clint Eastwood) is a bank robber on the run from his former partners, Red (George Kennedy) and Goody (Geoffrey Lewis) because they think he stole the money from their last robbery. In fact, the money is right where they hid it, in an old schoolhouse—but the schoolhouse has been moved. John meets up with Lightfoot (Jeff Bridges), a drifter looking for adventure. The two are caught by Red and Goody, but John manages to convince his former partners that he didn't take the money. The four of them decide to rob the same bank again. Everything goes well until the getaway. Goody is shot while hiding in the trunk of the getaway car. Red double crosses John and Lightfoot, leaving them stranded. He gives Lightfoot a severe beating before taking off. Red is chased by the cops and killed. John and Lightfoot wander away from the area and happen upon the old schoolhouse, now part of a history museum. The money from the first robbery is still there. John buys a car and the two friends drive off, but Red's beating has given Lightfoot a brain injury, and he dies.

Review - Thunderbolt and Lightfoot

There really isn't anybody to root for here. Eastwood's character at least seems to avoid hurting people. The full version is a lot cruder than the version I saw on TV long ago.
