Description:Missouri farmer Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) sees his wife and son killed by Union irregulars. He joins the Confederate cavalry. When the war ends, he refuses to surrender. His commanding officer, Fletcher (John Vernon) turns out to be a Union agent and assists the irregulars in killing Josey's entire band when they surrender. Josey takes off, followed by Fletcher and the irregulars. As Josey goes along, he picks up companions, all lost in one way or another — Lone Watie, and old India, a squaw, a grandmother from Kansas and her daughter (Sondra Locke). They settle in Comanche territory, make peace with the Indians and form a family. But the irregulars track them down, in a shoot out at the cabin, Josey and his friends manage to kill all the Union soldiers except the leader (the one who killed Josey's family). He chases him down and kills him and then comes face to face with Fletcher. The two men agree that the war is over, and Fletcher rides off.

Review - Outlaw Josey Wales, The

A lot of good characters and good action. I'm not a fan of Sondra Locke and I thought her simpering here almost ruined the movie, but otherwise it was pretty good.

Best line. Josey tells Lone Watie not to stick around because people he takes a liking to don't live long. Lone Watie says, "I notice that people you take a disliking to don't live long either."
