Description:James Stewart plays Dutch Holland, a baseball player who is called up to active service in the Air Force to fly bombers during the Cold War. He's resentful about ruining his career at first, but comes to believe in the importance of his mission. His wife, played by June Allyson, struggles to understand as Dutch is away from home for long periods. There are a lot of speeches on how military might prevents wars and two pasted in moments of suspense when Dutch crash lands a plane in Greenland and when he has to land one-handed (because of a shoulder injury) in the fog in Japan.

Review - Strategic Air Command

Jimmy Stewart was a pilot during WWII and stayed in the Air Force reserves. He actually flew the planes shown in the movie on weekend duty while he was acting. But it didn't make for a very exciting movie and June Allyson was just annoying as the whiny wife. Plane geeks would appreciate the shots of the bombers in flight, I imagine.
