Description:The story of three Navy midshipmen who go through the Naval Academy together and play football on the Navy team. Roger Ash (Robert Young) is talented but calculating, mostly wanting to become an officer so he can marry a rich woman. John Cross Carter (Jimmy Stewart) is all Navy. He joins under a false name because his father was court-martialed (wrongly) and he thinks that might have prevented his appointment. His main goal is to clear his father's name. When all this comes to light, he is almost thrown out of Navy for giving a wrong name, but he is exonerated and his father is cleared. Dick Gates (Tom Brown) is a rich kid who is mostly in the movie for laughs. He has a sister, Pat (Florence Rice) whom Roger sets his sights on, but she only has eyes for John and eventually ends up with him. Lionel Barrymore plays Capt. "Skinny" Dawes, an old Navy man who follows the exploits of the football team (and, indeed, invented the forward pass), and seems to show up just when one of the three main characters needs him.

Review - Navy Blue and Gold

Corny propaganda, but with heartfelt performances and a lot of enthusiasm. It was interesting to see how the Navy operated between the wars. I enjoyed the movie much more than I expected to.
