Description:Captain Ralls (John Wayne) deliberately wrecks the Red Witch, sending her cargo of gold to the bottom. He did this to get back at Sidneye (Luther Adler) for stealing and marrying Angelique (Gail Russell) whom Ralls loved. The competition between the two men is what keeps them going, and Ralls agrees to lead Sidneye to the ship in exchange for half the gold. But before he can collect more than a couple bars from the bottom, the Red Witch tips into a deep ocean canyon, taking Ralls with it.

Review - Wake of the Red Witch

A muddle of a movie. None of it made much sense. There's another guy who's just around to narrate and provide a secondary, uninteresting love story. There's a battle between Ralls and giant (totally unconvincing) octopus over a chest of pearls as part of some odd native ceremony that slipped in from another movie or something. The characters were pretty good, but the plot made no sense. Gail Russell gets second billing but only about 10 minutes of screen time. At the end, the ghost of the Red Witch sails off into the sunset with the ghosts of Ralls and Angelique at the wheel.
