When they accidentally spend a night alone together, Alexander makes them get married. Maura finds the life at the railroad camp rough. It's made more difficult when Alexander does everything he can to undermine the success of the project to get back at Johnny. The job takes longer than expected and men get killed. Maura goes back home. Johnny goes a little crazy and alienates his friends. The bridge he's building is almost swept away in a storm, but it stands. Review - Tycoon

Pretty lame. The railroad was a huge McGuffin to carry a story about the struggle between a cultured millionaire and a determined American engineer, with the daughter as the pawn between them. John Wayne's weird anger fit during the second half of the movie added drama, I suppose, but made the whole thing a bit of a farce. Laraine Day played her part pretty well. Many of the sets were obviously painted on the wall of the studio, the 1947 version of CGI.
