Description:Francie Lawrence, or Gidget (Sandra Dee) is a 16-year-old tomboy who wants to learn to be a surfer and hang out at the beach with the college boys. Her dad wants her to meet Jeffrey Matthews, the son of her business partner, but she has her eyes set on Moondoggie. He isn't particularly interested — he wants to be a surfer bum like his idol, the much older Kahuna (Cliff Robertson). On the final night of the summer there's a luau. Gidget and Moondoggie hook up, but have a misunderstanding. She takes off with Kahuna and, hurt by Moondoggie, wants him to "party" with her. Kahuna realizes she's too young and sends her away just before Moondoggie shows up. Gidget gets picked up by the police for being out so late. Her father tells her she can't hang out with the surfers any more and has to go out with Jeffrey — who turns out to be Moondoggie. He gives her his pin before taking off for college.

Review - Gidget

The plot was ridiculous and the dialogue, if possible, even worse. Gidget's parents were pretty relaxed about letting her hang out with much older guys all summer, which gave the movie an odd feel. Sandra Dee was rather endearing in a role that provided no challenges.
