Spade sends his partner Archer who ends up shot to death. When the police track down Thursby, he's dead too. Spade figures out that there is no sister. Brigid is looking for an ancient gold statue. But so are cheap thug Joe Cairo (Peter Lorre) and con man Gutman (Sydney Greenstreet). Spade plays them all off against one another. A boat captain stumbles into Spade's office with the falcon and Spade gathers all the players. The falcon turns out to be fake, but Spade manages to get Brigid, Cairo and Gutman all arrested by the police for the death of Archer and Thursby.

Review - Maltese Falcon, The

Bogart is kinda fun in this one, with his maniacal grin and tough guy talk. The other characters are all parodies. The plot is pretty much just a vehicle for Bogart to be Bogart.
