Description:Longfellow Deeds (Gary Cooper) was enjoying life in a small town when he found out he'd inherited $20 million. He moved to a mansion in New York, but he soon discovered having money was a pain. Lawyers, reporters, shirt tail relatives were all out for his money and everyone else enjoyed making fun of him for his country ways. He met one person he liked, Babe Bennett (Jean Arthur), and fell in love with her. He didn't know she was the reporter writing the stories about him. When he found out, he decided to give all his money away to poor farmers. The relatives charged him with being insane and brought him to court. Deeds refused to testify in his own defense until he realized he'd be letting the farmers down — and when Babe confessed under oath that she loved him. He took the stand then and convinced the judges that he was not only not insane, he was the most sane person they'd ever met.

Review - Mr. Deeds Goes to Town

Cooper is great as the laid-back country boy with loads of common sense. Arthur is almost as good as the conniving reporter with a heart of gold. The story is hokey, but fun and clean.
