Description:Bank robber Roy Earle (Humphrey Bogart) is released from prison after his boss makes a shady deal with the governor. Roy heads west and joins up with two young men to rob a resort. One of the men has a woman named Marie (Ida Lupino) who soon switches her allegiance to Roy. But Roy has eyes for Velma (Joan Leslie), a crippled girl he met on the way west. He pays for an operation to fix her foot, but she spurns him. At the resort robbery, Roy kills a guard. He and Marie hide out. They separate when Roy goes to L.A. to fence the jewels he stole. The police catch him and, after a siege on the slopes of Mount Whitney, he's gunned down and killed.

Review - High Sierra

Bogart played his role well here — the bad guy with a soft spot for things and people that are nice. There was some overacting by the support players, and Velma's character was a bit hard to believe, but overall I enjoyed it.
