George Eastman (Montgomery Clift) is a poor young man who gets a job in his uncle's factory. He begins dating Alice (Shelley Winters), who also works at the factory. At a party at his uncle's house, he meets Angela Vickers (Elizabeth Taylor), an heiress with whom he immediately falls in love. But then Alice reveals that she is pregnant and insists that George marry her. He goes to Angela's parents' home on a lake, but Alice follows. George pretends to agree to marry and takes her for a row on the lake, intending to drown her. He chickens out and accepts that his life with Angela is ruined. But then Alice upsets the boat. Review - A Place in the Sun

I'm not a huge fan of dramas, but this one was well done. Shelley Winters did a good job as the dowdy Alice, and Elizabeth Taylor was stunning as the rich heiress. Raymond Burr played the prosecuting attorney.
