Description:Professor Peter Boyd (Ronald Reagan) wants to marry Valerie, but her father, the college dean, won't allow it because Boyd's father was a crook. Boyd determines to prove that behavior is determined by nurture, not nature, so he takes the college Chimp, Bonzo, home with him and attempts to teach him right and wrong. To help out, he hired a nanny, pretty Jane Linden (Diana Lynn). Bonzo causes a lot of havoc, but manages to be lovable and show some signs of learning. Boyd and Jane pretend to be Bonzo's mama and papa. What Boyd doesn't realize is that Jane has fallen in love with him. When Valerie finds out about Jane, she breaks off her engagement with Boyd. Boyd's determination to win her back gets Jane so upset that she leaves. Then Bonzo steals a necklace from a jewelry store and Boyd is arrested for possession of stolen objects. Jane returns and gets Bonzo to put the necklace back, proving that he stole it and that he has learned right from wrong. Boyd ends up with Jane — and Bonzo.

Review - Bedtime for Bonzo

Certainly not an all-time best movie, but not awful either. Reagan is tasked with playing a stiff, scientific man, so he's upstaged by Bonzo and by Diana Lynn, who is really the charm of the movie.
