Description:Tom Rath (Gregory Peck) is pressured by his wife Betsy (Jennifer Jones) to make more money. He takes a job with a P.R. firm writing speeches and soon realizes that everyone there plays politics. Meanwhile, his grandmother dies and Tom inherits her huge house. Betsy sells their old house and informs him that they're moving into the huge house. But then the caretaker makes the claim the house was promised to him. Betsy finds out that Tom is falling into the political rut at work and demands that he start being honest. He does, and becomes the favorite of his boss. Tom then finds out that he has a son in Italy from a fling during the war. He tells Betsy, who runs out on him but then agrees with him to set up a trust fund for the kid. Tom realizes that Betsy's nagging has made life better for everyone. Tom had to decide whether to be honest or play the game, whether to sell out to the corporation or remain a 9-to-5 guy who spent time with his family.

Review - Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, The

It was hard to like Jennifer Jones' character — gushy one moment, screaming shrilly the next. Peck was amazing as a man who wanted to be good, wanted to take care of his wife and children, wanted to be liked, but who had demons (17 men killed in the war and an affair) to deal with.
