Description:J.J. Hunsecker (Burt Lancaster) is a NYC columnist who is high on power. He dotes on his sister Susan, and when she falls in love with jazz musician Steve Dallas (Martin Milner), J.J. is afraid he's going to lose her. He gets sleazy publicist Sidney Falco (Tony Curtis) to smear Dallas in exchange for mentioning Falco's clients in his column. Falco gets another columnist to accuse Dallas of smoking pot, then plants some in his coat and informs a crooked cop. Susan realizes that Falco is responsible, so she lures him to the Hunsecker home and makes it look like he's attacking her. J.J. enters and attacks Falco who tells Susan that J.J. was in on the plot against Dallas. Susan runs away and goes to Dallas. J.J. has the crooked cop beat up Falco.

Review - Sweet Smell of Success

Well acted and well filmed, but there's nobody to root for here. Watching it felt a little like wallowing in mud.
