Description:R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) fakes insanity when he's arrested yet again. He gets sent to a mental institution with the understanding that he will be released when his jail time is due to be over. He butts heads with head nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) and rouses the other inmates, even busting out with them and taking them on a fishing trip in a stolen boat. McMurphy befriends Chief Bromden (Will Sampson), a huge Indian who has everyone thinking he's deaf and dumb. When McMurphy finds out he won't get released until Nurse Ratched declares him sane, he decides to escape. He calls two of his girl pals and they show up with liquor and everyone has a party. One of the inmates, Billy, sleeps with one of the girls. McMurphy passes out and doesn't escape. When Ratched shows up in the morning, she threatens to report Billy to his mother. Billy commits suicide. McMurphy attacks Ratched and almost kills her. He's taken off and lobotomized. When Chief sees him in his vegetative state, he kills him, then breaks out and escapes.

Review - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Certainly not a cheery movie, but a well-made one. It made my sympathetic for the inmates who were controlled in every way by Nurse Ratches, who cared for them in her own way but was evil nonetheless. Nicholson was great in his role.
